She longs to do star mapping and eventually fly to distant star systems like Andromeda.Problem is, Dusty is a teenager and has enemies. Since she is notorious for her flying abilities, she tries to disguise herself at the academy. The next problem she faces is that she’s a better flyer than the instructors, and student pilots are dying.
Dusty becomes a real heroine, overcoming the odds and helping teach her fellow student pilots so they don’t get lost in space.
I’ve read all the books by Ms. Knott, and this one is my favorite in the series. The ending is spectacular, with lots of surprises.
Fun reading for both teens and adults.

Starduster Academy Volume 3 Merelee Knott 9781533196323 Books Reviews
This is the best book of the Starduster series. To get the full story, one should start with Starduster Talga, the first book; then read Starduster Sunsi, before reading Academy. As the third book in the series, it finally answers the nagging question about Dusty's origin. It is a well-written, hard-to-put-down story. It's great for teenagers and adults alike. I particularly like it because it's a science fiction story that's pretty much set on earth; so there isn't a lot of "made up" vocabulary to learn, just to read the story.
This book would have been a five star story but how the characters reacted to witnessing bullying took everything away from the story. This young girl is physically and verbally assaulted in front of people constantly . She's told to deal with it on one occasion and even blamed for it on another occasion. The scene with the coffee force drink is especially disturbing. The kid who witnessed that could have gone for help but he and everyone else is too afraid of people in positions of power which is understandable but there are ways to help without putting yourself in danger. What's worse is the girl dates someone who does nothing to help her. One of the characters who has a pattern of viciously attacking her is made look like a good guy because apparently the things he's going through in life excuse his behavior. Bullying is never acceptable under any circumstances.
I really like all of Merelee's books. She writes in an easy flowing style. There are some errors, particularly in grammar, but not bad for a self-published book.
Her stories are quite entertaining, and I find that once I start reading one of her books, I find it hard to put down until I have finished it--no matter how late it gets. ;) I especially like the Starduster series, however, I did think the ending of volume 3 was predictable and a bit of a cliché.
I look forward to more books from Merelee!
