This quote sets the tone of the book: "The 'creative' is in our minds; all the rest is in the camera." The instructions here about aperture will free your creative mind to use aperture more effectively and relax at it. What is aperture? Simple -- "...a hole that lets light into your light-proof box." How you manipulate the size of that hole makes all the difference. A very understandable explanation of the basics of aperture and shutter speed.

How do you freeze the action? What about shutter speed? You will learn the trick in good photography--"to know exactly HOW the film or sensor is going to react and manipulate it to your own (pre-visualized) goals."

What is the "sweet spot" on most lenses? You'll see a neat diagram that helps achieve correct exposure. Then how do you control "depth of field" indoors and outdoors? You will learn how to focus attention where you want it on your photo. A clear explanation of your creative options for achieving focus and depth of field.

This book is just one in a series of 50 volumes in the author's BONUS KARMA: "Keys to Better Photography." So you can embark on a well-laid out plan of learning great photography. I've studied at least 6 of these books thus far, and they're all very helpful and concise. I highly recommend them.

Master Photo Aperture! On Target Photo Training Book 4 eBook Dan Eitreim Reviews

A concise review of an essential subject. Many beginners find Aperture to be the most difficult of the triumvirate of camera controls to understand (ISO and Shutter Speed seem to be more intuitive). This book does an excellent job of explaining the interrelationships amongst the three in clear and simple language, as well as providing good exercises for practice. The book is intended for an audience of beginners, but that does not detract from its usefulness.
This is the fourth in a series of master photography training sessions. Following the instructions in each lesson will make you a more accomplished photographer.

Lesson 4 covers the use of the aperture settings on your camera lenses. It builds upon previous lessons of film setting (ISO) and shutter speed. Take your film or digital camera off automatic and set it to manual. Then get out your notebook and take pictures. It works.
Focus stacking was a new concept for me! Wow! What a great idea! In a YouTube video by Forest Tanaka, he'd said it was similar to HDR in the idea several photos are taken. I struggle with the aperture thing, and read this book to better understand the small f-stop number means a larger focal point (?). I'd learned how to do this in Photoshop but want to learn how to do it with the camera! Thx Dan for the reference book! Now I need to get out there to put it to practice to better burn it into my brain & to try the focus stacking!
Describes aperture, how to get different effects with aperture and shutter speed, has sample photos showing effects. Explains how aperture, shutter speed relate to each other.
Book is VERY well laid out and explains some very complicated subject matter straight forward and easy to understand. I HIGHLY recommend this book as well as ANY of the others he has written if you want to learn to use your camera to best of its abilities and express yourself through pictures that are well thought out and correct exposures. I have learned so much and have turned off the automatic setting on my camera. THANK YOU for writing these books.
I enjoy Dan's photo help books. They are straight forward and to the point without needless fluff. They are a quick enough read that my mind doesn't wander as it does with some books. They are concise so it's very easy to go back and re-read if it doesn't all sink in the first time.

Master Photo Exposure, Master Photo Shutter and Master Photo Aperture are the books you need if you are afraid to take your camera off automatic mode and you think your owner's manual makes no sense. Read these three books and learn about exposure and how to control it and all those settings described in your owner's manual will make a lot more sense. You will then be able to make full use of all the great settings and tools built into your camera.
I'm pretty much posting this same review for all of this series I've read so far. They have several characteristics in common, and it holds true for each of them. It's obvious the author Dan Eitreim knows the subjects. Each of the books has probably 70 to 80% of what you could expect to learn from just reading any book on an aspect of photography. Taken as a whole the series represents a worthwhile resource to advance your photography knowledge or technique.

He makes the ebooks available at very significant discount on a rotating basis. Subscribing to his email newsletter brings you photography tips, and a heads up when a discounted book becomes available. I find this method has good points and bad points.
Good points Very affordable, can acquire just the subjects of interest, not an overwhelming amount of information at one time.
Bad points Every book has 30 to 35% taken up with an off subject 15% lead in, and 20% lead out. After 20 books the novelty of this has worn off.

The series of 20+ books (minus the boiler plate and perhaps edited a little) would make good chapters in a single very respectable textbook on photography. Certainly worth your time to read. If in a hurry to learn about a specific subject and can't wait for the rotation, it's likely worth your money too.
